COTOPAXI, COLORADO! Another Small Colorado Town In Fremont County (April 1, 2006)
|
This morning I decided to go for a drive into
Bighorn Sheep Canyon in western Fremont County. I eventually arrived in
Westcliffe and bicycled for a bit, but first I stopped in the small
town of Cotopaxi, located 23 miles east of Salida. |
|
Cotopaxi is a very small
town nestled inside a canyon that State Highway 50 runs through. This is the view looking east. |
|
The Cotopaxi General Store has a fairly
wide selection of items, and I dare say it functions like a small supermarket for locals. |
|
A different angle of the Cotopaxi General Store with some rugged-looking mountains behind. |
|
This is definitely my favorite photo! The Arkansas River runs right through town and during the summer months, there are many rafters coming down this stretch of the river. Also, notice the orange-colored formations. (Looking west, upstream) |

Okay, here are all of my pictorials in this region:
Swissvale, Texas Creek,
Hayden Pass
Tenderfoot Mountain (Salida),
Poncha Springs
Monarch Pass,
Westcliffe,
Royal Gorge
