Olympic Torch Travels Through Manitou Springs, CO

Red White and Blue Balloons
The Olympic Torch Relay came through Manitou Springs this morning, on his worldwide route to Salt Lake City, the host of the 2002 Winter Olympics. I must confess that the day before, I didn't think this event would be such a big deal or much fun, but I was wrong!
American Flag
Everyone was decorating Manitou Avenue in red, white and blue patriotic themes. Above is a shot of Rich hanging up a large American flag.

Olympic Torch Flame
Often the Olympic Torch is in the back of a truck, but for many miles in Colorado Springs and then Manitou Springs, runners would go a mile with the torch. There's a woman running with it.

And then the torch was passed to this gentleman, who entered Soda Springs Park. I don't know who he was, but he was gleaming. It was a special moment.

Olympic Torch
The torch was placed inside the gazebo at Soda Springs Park during a brief ceremony.

American Costumes
Love the American costumes of these people. What a memorable morning!
