The Olympic Torch Relay came through Manitou Springs this morning, on his worldwide route to Salt Lake City, the host of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
I must confess that the day before, I didn't think this event would be such a big deal or much fun,
but I was wrong! |
Everyone was decorating Manitou Avenue in red, white and blue patriotic themes. Above is a shot of Rich
hanging up a large American flag.

Often the Olympic Torch is in the back of a truck, but for many miles in Colorado Springs and then Manitou Springs, runners would go a mile with the torch.
There's a woman running with it. |
And then the torch was passed to this gentleman, who entered Soda Springs Park.
I don't know who he was, but he was gleaming. It was a special moment.

The torch was placed inside the gazebo at Soda Springs Park during a brief ceremony. |

Love the American costumes of these people. What a memorable morning! |
