Gold Camp Road - Pikes Peak Region
| Gold Camp Road is a dirt road that is passable for an ordinary passenger vehicle like me. This is a very scenic drive between Colorado Springs and Victor.
How to get there from Colorado Springs: Drive as if
you are going to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
and at the junction of Cheyenne Mountain Road and Old Stage Road, go west (toward the mountains obviously)
on Old Stage Road. This road goes for approximately seven miles
and runs into Gold Camp Road. My pictorial begins here! :) |
 |
| TOP: A good view of the Will Rogers Shrine on
Cheyenne Mountain at the beginning. One can visit the shrine (which has a grand view of the city of Colorado Springs) with an admission ticket to the zoo.
BOTTOM: A few large rocks overlooking
Colorado Springs. |
 |
| One last look back as we head into the mountains. |
 |
| Right from the road, I captured this nice view of
Mount Cutler
as well as South Cheyenne Canyon (where Seven Falls resides)
and North Cheyenne Canyon. |
 |
| This trip reminded me of Rampart Range Road.
It's fairly isolated and scenic, yet so stinkin' close by! |
 |
A couple of shots of aspens. This is probably a good place to visit in the
fall!

| You will approach a nice lookout with a view of the "back side" (west) of Cheyenne Mountain. |
 |
| Penrose-Rosemont Resevoir is practically empty,
but it sure looks like a nice area for hiking and camping! ;) |
 |
| I am pretty sure that mountain is Mount Big Chief, alt. 11,224 feet. |
 |
| Pretty nice, if you ask me! ;) |
 |
| An old tunnel! My understanding is this road formerly served as a railroad grade.

| The photo is "watered down" because I reduced the file size, but it was a nice shot of the sun shining through the tiny buds on this aspen. |
 |
| At the other end of Gold Camp Road, you'll be just a few miles from
Victor and Cripple Creek!
