GROUND ZERO, New York City, New York - December 2001
Ground Zero is the large gap of space to the right. With the area well-fenced and blocked off to the public, we could not get very close to the site. (On Greenwich Street, looking south) |
Although we did not get to see much, I am so glad we made the visit. It was eerie to see many signs (especially on highways) that mentioned the World Trade Center. Here's a subway station that went nearby. I used to ride the 1 train all the time when I was in college. (That's Bernie, by the way.) |
Bernie took this picture while on the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Notice the purplish light and the large gap in the skyline of Lower Manhattan. |
A historic church near the site is full of flowers, shrines and sympathizers. Lower Manhattan did not seem quite like the area Bernie and I happily frolicked throughout last year. |
Click on the picture to see a close up of some of the police officers who died in service on September 11. |
Bernie took this picture in South Orange, New Jersey, where one can faintly see the skyline of New York. |
This missing notice really touched my heart. It is so tragic that so many died so senselessly. |
I thought I'd insert a picture of the towers from one of the New York adventures. |
