Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shop - Grand Opening in Lone Tree, Colorado

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Lone Tree, Colorado
It was March 30, 2001, and earlier in the week the first Krispy Kreme shop had opened in Colorado. There was a big frenzy on the first few nights, and my friend Jeremy and I decided that we had to have some doughnuts. These are my photos from our experience, in which we waited on line for two hours! What can I say? We were craving doughnuts. :)

The Krispy Kreme Doughnuts sign. The place was so packed that police were directing traffic.

The crowd waiting in line. And that was just to get inside the building. Some had camped out for two days before they opened!
Teens Love Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
After waiting for about an hour in the freezing cold, these loud and fun teens asked me to take a picture of them.

Finally we got inside, and the place was packed as the line snaked back and forth.
Steve Garufi Tired
Near 11 p.m., after waiting for 1 1/2 hours, I was getting tired. :o)

There were windows so people could watch the making of the doughnuts. At first, the machine squirts out small circular pieces of dough ... and they slowly go up and down in this heater.

Eventually they start to rise.

Then they go on a conveyer belt. Oh how I'd love to work there!
Krispy Kreme Glazed Doughnuts
Yummy glazed doughnuts. I'm in love!

When I got to the counter and they handed me my doughnuts, I went crazy. I was ecstatic! The manager and workers were so friendly, and I had to capture a picture of the event. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are now sold in Colorado -- I felt like I was part of Colorado history.
Jeremy Eats a Doughnut
Special thanks to Jeremy, who spent the evening with me. He's a good guy and we had a great talk about life in his truck. There he is, chomping on a chocolate doughnut.
Krispy Kreme T-Shirt
At the time, I was in graduate school, and I brought doughnuts to class the next day. Oh yes, I was Mr. Popular. And notice the new Krispy Kreme t-shirt I wore. Good times! :)
