My Trip To Moab, Utah - All Photos & Links
My Recap Page With Extra Photos From My Utah Trip, December 31, 2009 - January 3, 2010
I know ... I know ... I'm "Colorado Guy" and below are photos from a recent trip to Moab, Utah.
What can I say? I needed to get away from life
(as I know it) and part of the strategy was a change in the scenery. The desert of Utah was calling me!
Directly below are links to seven new photo galleries taken in Arches National Park and
elsewhere in Moab. Additionally, at the very bottom is another gallery that includes scenic Utah photos
that did not quite fit into any of the new pages. As you will see, my visit to southeastern Utah
did not bring any relief to the
cold wintery temperatures of Colorado.
It was just as snowy and cold in Moab, which was quite a rarity.
If you really love Arches National Park,
visit www.ArchesUtah.com
to see more from myself and other photographers, hikers and enthuasists. I also have (what I think is)
a very good photo gallery Arches National Park from a
visit in February 2009.
Lastly, I have two pages from western Colorado that are similar to the desert and rocky terrain of Moab:
Colorado National Monument and
Western Slope Desert.

Moab, Utah
Winter is the "off season" in Moab, Utah, and so I was able to stay at a motel for a cheap rate. Somehow though,
I did not manage to capture many photos of the actual town besides this one. I think this will be my excuse to visit again later in 2010! :)

A pretty view of the canyon. The Colorado River and Highway 128 run through this canyon en route to Moab. |
|
| I arrived to Moab in the late afternoon on New Year's Eve. Immediately I drove to Arches National Park
to photograph the sunset, which wasn't the greatest. It was then that I noticed how unusually
snowy and cold it was in the park. |

| The Morning of January 1, 2010
It was the first morning of the year and the first day of a new decade. In Arches National Park,
it was extremely cold (the temperature was in single digits) and foggy.
Below are four photos of how dreary and gray things were. As I alluded to above,
so many friends and acquaintences have commented about
how hot their visits were during the summer time, with temperatures usually well exceeding 100 degrees. As you can see,
it really can be cold and snowy in the southeastern Utah desert! :) |
|
| I arrived at the Balanced Rock. Look ... I was the only person there!
Balanced Rock could not be seen until I walked close to it on the pedestrian trail. (My photos
aren't worth showing - the faint shape of the rock was all that could be seen.)
So there I stood (middle photo), standing in the parking lot all by myself.
Yes, I did feel "like a loser" for showing
up to Arches National Park - this glorious place! - on arguably
the worst morning one could visit. Ha ha!
THIRD PHOTO: The fence at Balanced Rock covered in snow and icy frost. |

| Some lavendar in the sky one evening. |
|
| The sun came out in the afternoon on New Year's Day.
The view of the La Sal Mountains from the overlook. |
|
| One evening I dined at Fiesta Mexicana in Moab.
This is an excellent Mexican Restaurant! :) |
|
| My one and only photo inside the town of Moab. :) |
|
Two photos as I drove on Potash Road (Highway 279). That second
photo was taken near the Corona Arch Trailhead. Note the lack of cars or people
on this quiet Sunday morning! :)
