Red Rock Canyon: A Hike In Colorado Springs Open Space
November 2004

How to get there: Take State Highway 24 west of 31 Street in Colorado Springs, and you'll see the parking lot 0.2 miles on the south side of the highway.
Ooooooh! Look at this vertical climber!
Red Rock Canyon is a geological extension of Garden of the Gods, in which you'll find all sorts of orange rock structures.
The zoom-in photo is a little blurry, but can you see all the vertical climbers from left to right? :)

Although I've "snuck" onto the property a few times, this was my first visit to the Quarry. Isn't it interesting to see how to rock got completely cut up?

RED ROCK CANYON HIKE, November 2003
Lots of Garden of the Gods type structures.
Gotta love those red rocks! All of these pictures are in the 1/3 of the park that is adjacent to the Manitou Springs border.

Garden of the Gods can be seen from afar. I love the cropped top picture! :)
This is the very beginning of "Sand Canyon" and I must say, it's fairly steep and quite beautiful. I'm heading down there next time I go back! ;)
I love these silhouette pictures!
That's me! :)
Other hiking trails in the area:
  • Williams Canyon
  • Red Mountain
  • Manitou Incline
  • Barr Trail
  • Waldo Canyon Loop Trail
  • Palmer Park
  • Looking west, towards Pikes Peak, Mount Manitou and the Ruxton Creek Valley.
At one point, there were cacti everywhere and I couldn't help but step on a few of them! :P
