Day 4: Bike Ride Through the San Luis Valley, Southern Colorado
June 2002
The San Luis Valley: A high, flat plateau surrounded by mountains. |
I rode over 60 miles that day and loved every minute of it. I started at Del Norte and traveled up through Sagauche and another ten miles off the picture toward Villa Grove. |
Early in the morning, I rode past a few BUFFALO RANCHES! It was amazing! :) |
The mighty Sangre de Cristo mountains grew larger and larger the more I rode east. |
Sagauche County! What wide open spaces! :) |
After riding for about 20 miles and feeling in great shape (unlike Day 1 and Day 2), I celebrated by smoking a cigar as I peddled. :) |
Mooooooooooooo! :p)
The picture quality isn't the greatest, but I wanted to capture just how large those mountains are. |
East of the town of Sagauche, looking back west. |
See that white speck on the tan mountain? That's the D on the mountain at Del Norte! |
Click and this picture and notice the tan-colored triangular hill in front of the mountains. That's the GREAT SAND DUNES! :) |
Guys! Here's what happened when I rode past a buffalo farm. I stopped to take a picture and the buffaloes just looked at me. Then, as I rode away, one of the buffalo began running adjacent to me ... and then about 30 buffaloes starting stampeding behind it. IT WAS AMAZING! I was riding along a pack of buffalo! :) |
One last picture of those buffaloes! I'm
obsessed with buffalo ... and really enjoyed eating buffalo at the
Stagecoach Inn.
