12-Step Recovery Program Announced for Diarrhea Sufferers(Steve Is Criticized For His "Bathroom Humor")
May 21, 2003
MANITOU SPRINGS, CO -- Psychotherapist Steve "ColoradoGuy" Garufi has announced that
he will be starting and facilitating a new group: a 12-step recovery program for those battling with diarrhea.
Yesterday morning, with his eyes filled with 'eye snot' and swollen from allergies,
Steve announced that he was inspired by a brochure he found titled, Diarrhea, the Steps of Recovery.
"Ewwwwwww! That is so gross! I don't want to hear anymore." stated Jessica A., a co-worker with
Steve in Colorado Springs.
"We'll start with going through what's in the pamplet and then go from there." stated Steve, who plans
to run the new group from his Manitou Springs home.
While Steve does not usually struggle with diarrhea (except after he eats at Sonic
drive-ins), the Internet personality stated he "has a certain amount of compassion" for those with the ailment.
Many have criticized Steve's joking about diarrhea as "bathroom humor" and questioned whether they are appropriate for
a popular web site such as this. In the past two years, he received a logjam of feedback - both positive
and negative - from published news articles about flatulence, toilet paper, stitches in his knee, his ugly, busted toe nail and thumbsucking.
"Now I don't know what kind of people go on your web site, but I'd say that's pretty strange. People
are going to think you're strange and 'out there' Steve." stated Dave Buscarello of Manitou Springs, a
friend and neighbor who thought Steve's diarrhea recovery group is rather disgusting.
