Local Manitou Politician Tries To Cut Steve's Hair!

(Merchant of "The Dulcimer Shop" Makes Threat With Scissors)

January 16, 2004

Manitou Springs Councilwoman Donna Ford MANITOU SPRINGS, CO -- Donna Ford, a local storekeeper and Manitou Springs City Councilwoman attempted to cut Steve "ColoradoGuy" Garufi's hair this week in her "hippie shop" popularly known as the Dulcimer Shop.

The scissors used to taunt the long-haired Internet personality were merely Swiss Army knife scissors, which couldn't have cut Steve's hair anyway, but the mere sight of the clips filled the room with much tension, albeit temporarily.

"I thought of Samson (in the Bible) ... and cutting away his hair." joked Donna, a local politician and registered Republican.

"I told her she better not be serious about cutting my hair." stated Steve, who briefly posed for a picture as he looked at much of the "hippie merchandise" inside the shop.

Later in the day, Steve explained away his grin (see adjacent picture) by saying that his artifical smile "concealed the rage and fury" he typically feels when a short-haired person suggests that he cut his long, beautiful, naturally curly hair.

"I know Donna was kidding, but people who say 'cut your hair' are so narrow-minded. I'm growing this hair out to halfway down my back, and if people don't like it, they can kiss my (expletive)!" contended Steve.

Hair Consultant Marisa, the public official in charge of helping and coaching Steve with growing his hair as long as possible, was unavailable for comment.

Politically, it appears Councilwoman Ford's antics with Steve's hair give her no practical gain or fallout in her ability to successfully govern on the City Council of the historic tourist town.

The Dulcimer Shop!

I love their stain-glassed door!
Donna and Bud Jr. were inside. :)
They've got a whole bunch of really interesting novelty chess sets ... a loads and loads of dulcimers!
...and look at all the lovely tie-dyes! ;)
They've got a great selection of stereotypically cheesy bumper stickers too!
Wow! A Grateful Dead teddy bear as the Statue of Liberty! :)
Oh wow!
It's a Jerry Garcia stuffed figure. Hey, have you ever seen pictures of Former Mayor Bud Ford? Some say there's a resemblance. Heh heh!
Way in the back is the bongo section.
Ah, but the main speciality of the Dulcimer Shop is ... hand crafted dulcimers!
Here's a nice shot of Bud playing the dulcimer from last year, when Jackie visited Manitou.
Ooooooooooooooooh! Check out this Grateful Dead lamp!
That's me playing with one of the wooden flutes. (No, I don't play the dulcimer!) On the right, I started listening to Donna's political ramblings and really lost it! :-( I always tell her to visit the Political Forum for that kind of stuff, but does she listen?
Okay, it's a little off color, I'll admit, but I think it's still pretty funny! :)
