Farting Book Draws Laughter, Disgust
December 9, 2000
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- A recently obtained book about farting has caused a
wide range of emotions in the ColoradoGuy.com community. Titled The Gas We Pass:
The Story of Farts, the book was given to Steve as a gift a short time ago.
Written as a children’s book with colorful pictures on each page, the book
explains the nature of farting, explains the bodily workings of a fart and even
discusses what types of food lead to smellier farts.
Julie Taylor, who gave the book to Steve as a gift, originally bought the
novelty at a thrift store so that no other child would be able to read it. In fact, Taylor
planned to dispose of the book.
“I thought (the book) was digusting, repulsive and that no child should
have it.” Taylor said vociferously in a phone interview.
However, when she returned home and showed the hardback to her husband, he recommended giving it to Garufi.
“You’ve got to give that to Garufi.” chimed Steve Taylor, also a friend of Steve.
With her husband’s prodding,
Taylor, an occasional critic of the web site, decided to give the farting book to Steve.
Earlier this fall, Steve boldly "came out" as a person of
the non-farting lifestyle, which
caused great controversy publicly and personally in his life. Garufi agrees flatulence is
part of the human experience, but insists he has always gone to the
bathroom when he has the urge to fart.
“This is something you have got to put on your web site.” said Chris Morton, who
laughed throughout while reading the twenty page book after
their weekly Bible study.
For the past week, Steve has been giddily showing people the farting
book when he thinks it is appropriate and necessary for a laugh. However,
not all have been enthused about the book.
“Uhhhhh, no Steve,” one female student coldly replied when Steve showed
her the front cover of the book on the campus of Denver Seminary, “I don’t want to see anymore of that.”
