UPDATE: Hi guys. I just wanted to let you know that I had the VW Bug from October to January, but then I gave it back to Emma. So this article is a little outdated. Love, Steve :) (February 2001)

Steve Awaits Obtaining VW Bug

October 7, 2000

Look at this car!FOUNTAIN, CO -- According to recent reports, it will be "any day now" that Steve borrows an old, 1968 VW Bug from his friend Emma Hutchings.

Steve and Emma have agreed to have Steve “baby-sit” the old Volkswagon classic for two weeks. After driving and enjoying the vehicle, Steve will make his decision whehter to buy the car outright from Hutchings.

“I am so excited about finally getting a Bug. I have wanted to do this for so long.” Steve said. “What a beautiful car. I can’t wait to take care of her!”

Steve’s enthusiasm about driving the thirty-year-old car was met with temporary disappointment, when plans to relocate the car to Steve’s house became unsuccessful.

On Friday morning, Emma and Steve drove to the specialty auto shop in Fountain, Colorado, where the VW Bug had received a new starter.

Unfortunately, the rear left tire went flat and the auto shop was surprisingly closed. Emma believed the shop was perhaps opening later, because of the snowy conditions that morning, but as the day ensued, the shop never opened.

With no way to fix the tire, Steve simply sat in the driver’s seat and occupied himself with the unique features of the VW Bug.

“Now remember, to go to reverse push down and then into second gear.” Hutchings said.

Hutchings, a 19 year old woman who also completed the same Rising Star Communications classes as Steve, helped Steve learn how to “drive a stick” weeks earlier.

They have not yet agreed on the next time that they will pick up the VW Bug.
